The imaginary wireless-power technology is to be brought to reality with Nokia’s new cellphone prototype which is able to recharge its own power “wirelessly”. This cellphone harvests ambient radio waves from the air, converts it into a form of usable energy power. This cellphone is able to collect waves omitted by TV, radio and other wave generating devices of all sorts of frequencies and wavelengths. Whenever the cellphone is able to acquire any of the wavelengths, it will be able to harness its energy and empower itself with it.

This marks the beginning of the wireless power technology, by harvesting ambient electromagnetic energy. Currently Nokia is able to harvest all of 5 milliwatts from the air; the goal is to increase that to 20 milliwatts in the short term and 50 milliwatts down the line.Nokia says it hopes to commercialize this technology in 3 to 5 years time.
