My Honeymoon : Great dessert pancakes!
Posted by GRight after Tokyo G, we started to have a urge for something sweet to satisfy that after meal dessert urge. Someone handed us a flyer and all we had to do was take a good hard look at the Durian Pancake (!) to change course to My Honeymoon.
My Honeymoon, which specializes in Hong Kong style desserts and light sweet snacks, is a Malaysian chain which has just started it’s expansion. They’ve just recently opened an outlet in Sunway Pyramid, which was the place we visited. The place is quite small (the chairs too!), but is overall quite comfortable. Service was rather prompt, no complaints here!
Between the four of us, we ordered the Durian Pancake, Mango Pancake, Peanut Cream and Mango Cream with Sago and Pomelo. First up is the Durian Pancake. Fresh durian flesh encased in real whipped cream and packed neatly in a pastry skin, this was total heaven to us durian lovers. The durian was creamy and sweet, and the pastry with cream helped to enhance the mouthfeel. Reccomended!
Next is the Mango Pancake. Again, it is mango flesh wrapped with whipped cream and a pastry skin. The mango was fresh, however the pancake in a whole wasn’t sweet enough for our tastes. This shows that no extra sweeteners are used to make the pancake, making the sweetness dependent on the mango itself. Great as a choice for those who don’t like very sweet things.
The Peanut Cream is a traditional Chinese dessert which is usually served warm. Like the name implies, Peanut Cream is peanuts blended with liquid then boiled down to a thick creamy consistency, Peanut Cream by itself is a warming and satisfying dessert. The peanut cream at My Honeymoon was a little bland due to the lack of sugar, but the aroma of the peanuts still lingers at the back of the throat after swallowing it.
The final dessert was the Mango Cream with Sago and Pomelo. Pureed mango with sago, pomelo bits and a cream based sauce, our verdict again was that it was not sweet enough! With a little more sweetness, this would have become a favorite because the fruits were fresh and tasted great.
Our conclusion? The best part was the durian pancake, however the rest was a little lacking in sweetness. This may be a good thing for people who prefer less sweet desserts, but for us, it caused it to be a little too bland. The desserts are also a little pricey, with the pancakes close to RM10 for a serving. If anything, go for the Durian Pancake. You wouldn’t regret it.
